Last Updated: March 27, 2026
PingHawk (“we,” “us,” or “our”) operates the website https://www.pinghawk.net and the PingHawk uptime monitoring platform (collectively, the “Service”). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and protect your personal information when you use our Service.
By using PingHawk, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this Privacy Policy.
1. Information We Collect
1.1 Account Information
When you create an account, we collect:
- Full name
- Email address
- Organization name
- Password (stored securely using industry-standard hashing)
1.2 Phone Number
If you choose to receive SMS alert notifications, we collect your mobile phone number. Your phone number is collected solely for the purpose of sending you uptime monitoring alerts that you have explicitly opted into.
1.3 Usage Data
We automatically collect certain information when you use the Service, including:
- IP address
- Browser type and version
- Pages visited and features used
- Date and time of access
- Monitor configurations and alert settings
1.4 Monitor Data
Information related to monitors you create, including URLs, check intervals, alert configurations, and historical uptime data.
1.5 Payment Information
If you subscribe to a paid plan, payment information is collected and processed by our third-party payment processor (Stripe). We do not store your full credit card number on our servers.
2. How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect to:
- Provide, maintain, and improve the Service
- Send uptime monitoring alerts via email and/or SMS based on your configurations
- Process transactions and manage your subscription
- Respond to your requests, comments, or questions
- Monitor and analyze usage patterns to improve user experience
- Detect, prevent, and address technical issues or security threats
- Comply with legal obligations
3. SMS/Text Messaging
PingHawk offers SMS text message alert notifications as part of its uptime monitoring service. This section describes how we handle SMS communications.
3.1 Types of Messages
If you opt in to SMS alerts, you may receive the following types of text messages:
- Downtime alerts — when a monitored website or service goes down
- Recovery notifications — when a monitored service comes back online
- Reminder alerts — periodic notifications while a service remains down
- SSL certificate expiry alerts — when an SSL certificate is approaching expiration
3.2 Message Frequency
Message frequency varies based on the number of monitors you configure with SMS alerts and the frequency of incidents affecting your monitored services. You control which monitors send SMS alerts through the PingHawk dashboard.
3.3 Consent and Opt-In
You consent to receive SMS alert notifications by explicitly opting in through the PingHawk web application. During the alert configuration process for a monitor, you voluntarily add your phone number as an SMS alert recipient and confirm you wish to receive text message notifications. You must be logged into your authenticated PingHawk account to configure SMS alerts. Consent is collected on a per-monitor basis — you choose which monitors will send you SMS alerts.
3.4 Opt-Out
You can opt out of SMS messages at any time by:
- Replying STOP to any SMS message received from PingHawk to immediately stop all SMS communications
- Removing your phone number from alert recipients in the PingHawk dashboard
After opting out, you will receive a one-time confirmation message. No further messages will be sent unless you re-subscribe.
3.5 Help
Reply HELP to any SMS message from PingHawk for assistance information, or contact us at support@pinghawk.net.
3.6 Message and Data Rates
Message and data rates may apply. Please contact your wireless carrier for details about your messaging plan.
3.7 Mobile Information Sharing
We will not share, sell, or disclose your mobile phone number, SMS opt-in data, or any mobile-related information to third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. Your phone number is used exclusively by PingHawk for delivering the SMS alert notifications you have opted into.
3.8 Supported Carriers
SMS alerts are available to users with mobile phone numbers from major U.S. carriers. Carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages.
